A Masked Entrance and a Hidden Traitor
Rather than joining the initial group of castle arrivals, Mariano was brought out separately, masked and cloaked, in a twist where the existing cast had to decide as a group whether to let him in, with a catch that whoever shook his hand to admit him would also get to immediately eliminate someone else on the spot. None of the assembled cast wanted to take on that kind of target, so the group collectively declined him, only for the season to reveal, at the very end of Episode 1, that Mariano was entering the game regardless, and as a Traitor.
Caught by the New Arrivals
Once in, Mariano became one of the season’s most closely watched Traitors specifically because of who he was. Castmates Wes Bergmann and Derrick Levasseur, both competition-show veterans in their own right, worked together to try to sniff him out, correctly identifying him as a Traitor and pushing to have him banished at the Round Table. That effort succeeded in Episode 7, where Mariano was banished, finishing 12th of 23, a mid-pack finish for a player whose reputation preceded him into every conversation in the castle.
