Reza Mehdi Farahan was born on August 5, 1973, in Tehran, Iran, to a Jewish father and Muslim mother. His family fled Iran during the 1979 Islamic Revolution and settled in Beverly Hills, California, where he grew up alongside his sister, Fatemeh. He attended Beverly Hills High School and later graduated from San Francisco State University with a business degree, training that fed directly into the career he’d build afterward.
Building a Real Estate Career
Farahan has worked for years as a luxury real estate agent with Keller Williams, specializing in high-end properties across Beverly Hills and West Hollywood and representing clients from the entertainment and athletic worlds. That career predates and outlasts his television fame, and he has continued working in real estate throughout his run on Shahs of Sunset and beyond.
Nine Seasons of Shahs of Sunset
Farahan was a main cast member across all nine seasons of Shahs of Sunset, which ran on Bravo from 2012 until the show ended in 2021, chronicling the lives of a group of affluent Iranian-Americans in Los Angeles. He was one of the show’s most consistent presences, known for his sharp humor and willingness to be candid about his own personal and cultural conflicts on camera.
Farahan married Adam Neely, a former fashion model and actor, on October 3, 2015, in Palm Springs, California, after the two met at the gym. He has since built out a business beyond real estate and reality TV: Reza Be Obsessed, a haircare line he launched in 2018 featuring a gold-infused shampoo and conditioner along with styling products. He published a memoir, Memoirs of a Gay Shah: My Story of Family, Fame, and Becoming a King, in 2023, and has discussed working on further book material tied to a planned 2026 return to Bravo.
A Quick Exit on The Traitors, and Life Now
Farahan’s time on The Traitors ended almost as soon as it began. Cast among the show’s civilians and celebrities, he was murdered by the Traitors in Episode 2, making him the first person ever eliminated on the American version of the show. In 2026, he turned up in a much lower-stakes environment, appearing alongside fellow Traitors alum Ryan Lochte on Worst Cooks in America.
