Rob Rausch went from wrangling venomous snakes on an Alabama farm to walking away with the entire prize on Season 4 of The Traitors, the first Traitor to win the American version of the show since Season 1.
Robert Kelley Wilson Rausch was born September 1, 1998, in Florence, Alabama, and grew up on a 200-acre farm in what he’s described as an “unorthodox” upbringing: homeschooled, raised partly in a three-bedroom trailer, and around snakes from an early age. Long before reality TV, he was building a career that had nothing to do with cameras at all.
That career, and the following it built him online, is what got him noticed in the first place.
A Homeschooled Kid Who Grew Up Around Snakes
Rausch graduated from Shoals Christian School in 2016 and attended the University of North Alabama from 2017 to 2020, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Rather than finishing in a conventional career track, he turned his childhood familiarity with reptiles into a full-time profession, working as a venomous snake wrangler across the southeastern United States and traveling internationally for the work, including trips to Bali, Malta, Venice Beach, and Algeria.
Two Million Followers Before Reality TV
Rausch built a following of more than two million people on TikTok around his snake-wrangling work, well before reality television entered the picture. That online profile, combined with his physicality and instincts for reading people, is what led producers to him.
From Love Island’s Villain Edit to The Traitors
Rausch first appeared on Love Island USA during its Casa Amor stretch in Season 5, then returned for a bigger role in Season 6, where he was given a villain edit that made him one of that season’s more polarizing figures. That reputation made him a logical pull for a mega-cast Traitors season built around big personalities from across reality TV.
An Original Traitor Nobody Caught
Rausch entered Season 4 as an Original Traitor alongside Lisa Rinna and Candiace Dillard Bassett, and he was never once identified as a Traitor by the Faithfuls across the entire season. His closest bond in the game was with Maura Higgins, who trusted him completely, and he formed a separate trust alliance nicknamed “the Dagger” with Faithfuls Mark Ballas and Kristen Kish, neither of whom ever suspected him either. Midway through the season, production’s “Join or Die” twist forced Rausch, as the last remaining Traitor at that point, to give a Faithful an ultimatum: join him as a Traitor or be murdered. He chose Eric Nam, who accepted, and the two worked together to reach the show’s final three.
Cutting Nam Loose to Win It All
Rather than splitting the prize three ways, Rausch chose to cut Nam loose in the finale, igniting one more round of voting that left him and Higgins as the final two. He won the full $220,800 pot outright, the first time a Traitor had won the American version of the show since its first season. He later sent Nam a three-word text summing up the betrayal: “My fault, G.” Rausch also gifted Higgins a roughly $22,000 Hermès Birkin bag as an apology for the betrayal that cost her the win, and he appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on March 3, 2026, to talk through his strategy and take a snake-knowledge quiz on air.
Life Now
At the Season 4 reunion, taped February 12, 2026, Rausch confirmed he’d been dating a new girlfriend for about two months, saying he met her at a bookstore while looking for a field guide to Europe. He’s kept her identity private but said he didn’t want her “to feel like she was a secret,” a detail that reads differently coming from the season’s biggest secret-keeper. When host Andy Cohen raised the idea of a future romance with Higgins instead, Rausch shut it down, though the two have said they remain friends off camera.
